Women form the backbone of any progressive society. In our country, however, we have been fighting to save the girl children and set right skewed sex ratios in many states. While women across the world have been carrying the credit of ushering in pioneering innovations, our women have a tough time securing basics, such as education and healthcare.
In the contemporary global landscape, women's empowerment has emerged as a powerful catalyst for societal and economic development. Across the world, women are rising as leaders, surpassing gender norms, and excelling in various domains. Amid the ongoing battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, women leaders have stepped forward, taking charge and guiding their nations through unprecedented challenges. This trend highlights the pivotal role women play in governance and decision-making, making women's empowerment an imperative for progress.
In India, women's empowerment is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including geographical context (urban vs. rural), social standing (caste and class), educational attainment, and age. Efforts toward women's empowerment exist at various levels – state, local (panchayats), and national. However, substantial gaps between policy intent and grassroots execution persist, resulting in disparities across education, economic opportunities, healthcare access, and political participation.
